BIOCAPS Spotlight: Naz Khan

Naz Khan

Research and Administrative Assistant

BIOCAPS Spotlight is a new regular feature about people in BMB & CPS and their outstanding work. Meet faculty and staff members from across the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology and the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences!

Naz Khan has been providing her excellent and friendly service to the CPS department for the past 16 years. She worked as the Executive Assistant to the Head for 15 years and moved on to the Research and Administrative Assistant in both BMB & CPS in 2020.

  • Tell us about your role as the Research and Administrative Assistant

My role as the Research and Administrative Assistant with the Depts of Biochemistry and CPS consist of assisting the CPS Research Committee with the Research retreat and taking care of all finance, and related reimbursements. My Administrative Assistant role – I assist both departments with all Workday finance inquiries, assist with PO’s, PCard reconciles and all Department reimbursements including all Biochemistry and CPS Seminar reimbursements.  I also take care of the LSC Online Safety orientation and provide Building access to new employees.

Naz’s behind-the-scenes work has been integral to the success of CPS. She is a highly valued member of the staff and never hesitates to help others. Her kind and positive nature helps create the team cohesion we are lucky to enjoy in CPS.

  • Tell us about your experience in the Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences and UBC

I have been with the Department for over 15 years and this is the best place to work.  I can honestly say I enjoy assisting faculty, staff and students. My colleagues, and direct supervisors are wonderful.  The team atmosphere, the diversity in the department makes this a great place to work.

  •  What do you enjoy when you are not working?

I love cooking, learning about different kinds of foods as well as spending time with family & friends.

  • Tell us something most people don’t know about you?

I sometimes think I am a boring person. I LOVE spicy food, sometimes I take my own chilies to restaurants.

I eagerly wait for NFL Football LOVE the sport!!

Naz has a very positive, collaborative spirit and she tackles all challenges with optimism. She is thorough and provides great service, and she consistently follows-through. These qualities make for a valuable team member, which allows the departments to deliver continuous and exceptional support to our researchers and students.
